These days, working from home has become a huge trend. In the age of the “Great Resignation”, people are leaving their jobs and finding income in other facets of life.

In this article, you will be reading about two of the companies I am a member of and affiliate for, Wealthy Affiliate and GeenAffiliates. I understand the confusion of wondering what one has to do with the other, but after reading my article you will make the connection quickly.

How I Discovered Affiliate Marketing And Wealthy Affiliate

After graduating from college with an associate’s degree in graphic design, I struggled to get and keep a job in the field. A bachelor’s degree is what seemed to be needed, and I was/am too far in debt to consider that.

So I continued with the profession that has paid the bills my whole adult life, cooking. The pay is decent and there always seems to be an opening for a good cook. However, getting older has convinced me that I am in need of a career change.

Then one day, it was like an alarm went off in my head, and a light clicked on at the same time. This alarm and light made me think, I got my degree online, why can’t I start my own online business of some sort. This would also put my degree to work versus letting it collect dust and be useless.

So I began researching online businesses that I felt comfortable doing myself. I had no start-up money, but I had the desire and drive to research what I could do with little to no money. One thing I learned to do well in college was research!

I came across so many scams that sounded so good. The old saying is true -“When something sounds too good to be true, it is.” So be wary of such trickery, it’s out there everywhere.

Then I came across an article for Wealthy Affiliate. As I read the article, I said to myself, “Self, this sounds really real,”

There were no promises of making $1000’s dollars in just days, but there was a promise to teach you everything you need to know about affiliate marketing, and how to create a potentially lucrative website.

Well, with me not knowing a stitch about affiliate marketing or how to create a website for it, this sounded like my best bet, and it came with a seven-day free trial.

Needless to say, this was my entry into the affiliate marketing world.

How Wealthy Affiliate Has Helped Me

As I said, I was pretty much clueless when it came to affiliate marketing. I knew one thing about it, you promoted other people’s products/services and earned a commission from the sales. I knew I came to the right place too. Wealthy Affiliate does not make any promises of making money overnight, they do however promise to teach you all there is to know about affiliate marketing and how to make money from it.

As with anything in life, you get out what you put in, and that is what WA tells you too.

My first task was to choose a niche, first I needed to know what a niche was in the first place. Just for the guys like me, your niche is the topic/company/product that you wish to promote.

Coming up with my niche was the most difficult task for me. I could have followed the Bootcamp training and promoted WA, but I wanted to promote a product that had the potential to help every person on the planet in some way.

I brainstormed for what seemed to be forever, considering I had seven free days and wanted to get as much as possible accomplished. Then it hit me, I needed to promote a product that was eco-friendly and that I truly stood behind. I needed a product that people were curious about, a product with popular online research.

Hemp came to mind when I thought of the most popular thing at the time, which was the CBD craze that had recently sprouted in the US. I began researching industrial hemp and what it could be used for aside from CBD.

My findings were very eye-opening, to say the least. I was astounded to find that industrial hemp had the potential to be used in well over 25,000 products. I instantly knew that this was the perfect niche for me. I had to narrow my spectrum a bit and hone in on an audience.

Then I had to learn how to build a blogging website for my reviews to be published for public access. I was very nervous about this as web design was not my strong point in college.

I actually found the process to be very easy with WA’s step-by-step training, they made it feel as simple as pouring a cup of coffee. In no time at all, I had this beautiful live website, full of rich unique content, created all by me. You can imagine how proud I was of myself.

Learning about keywords and how to find and use them effectively in my reviews was a crucial step in creating my blogs. Just graduating college I was accustomed to researching and writing, effective sales writing was not taught, however. Wealthy Affiliate had me covered on that part thank heavens. The main thing they focused on was being detailed, honest, and helpful in your reviews and you would see results in time.

Next, I needed to find affiliate programs in my niche, once again, I was clueless as to where to start. WA not only taught me how to find these companies but also how to use the links they provide effectively in my reviews. You can litter your content with links and totally fudge things all up, proper placement and moderation are key.

I learned that having informative articles is just as important as selling articles, maybe even a little more important. Proving that you have knowledge of the subject is crucial. Not every outbound link will be an affiliate link, some will be to articles that

Personally, I only promote products I have used or intend on using, this definitely helps with writing quality content regarding said products. Anyone can say, hey buy this product here is a description and the price. But do they know anything about it, have they used it? How can you trust them if all you ever see from them is a sales pitch and never information or personal experiences?

At the end of the free seven-day trial, I felt that I needed more guidance, information, and definitely more quality time with the community at Wealthy Affiliate. So, I paid for the first month that was offered at the discounted price of $19.99 back then, and it’s still the same great low price today.

For the next month, I worked very hard on the training. I even went back and re-read some that I felt I went too fast on during my free trial. I soaked up the information like a sponge. My website also benefited greatly as I gained more knowledge, it showed in my writing skills and article layout as well.

With my discounted month ending soon, I could have reverted to a free member at this time, but I would lose access to my website unless I moved it to another hosting platform or had I left it on the free hosting platform. Honestly, all the other hosting sites cost more with a lot fewer benefits compared to WA.

Also, I got accustomed to saying hello to the community, and there are always some great tips and a sea of knowledge to tap into there. I bought a year membership, and then during the Black Friday sale that year I took advantage of one hell of a discount on my premium membership. This locked me in at that discounted price for life, also giving me two years paid in advance to learn and create.

It is quite possibly the best deal I found, and the best decision I had made since college. I have been a member now for 4 years and have not regretted one single minute of my decision to join WA. I have learned so much and made so many wonderful contacts, what’s to regret? I also have a very beautiful website as you can see.

I have never been pressured to promote WA, any promoting I do is purely personal driven. I have, however, been considering starting a website for promoting WA. This program helped me a lot, and helps more people like me every day.

I could have chosen to promote anything, but I wanted my niche to be important as well as profitable. So, I chose hemp. A product that could, single-handedly, greatly help with saving the planet, if only it was grown and used vastly.
